Full Description

A report published 13th January 1816, 10 months after the wrecking reports that on 26 March 1815 'The ABERCROMBIE East Indiaman wrecked off Portland, - crew lost. (1).

Apart from the name, the details of the loss correspond exactly with those of the ALEXANDER, which is the only vessel mentioned in contemporary accounts of the loss.

This vessel is only known from documentary evidence. The location given is only approximate.

1815 wreck of English East Indiaman which was wrecked off Portland, which may be a variant account of the wreck of the ALEXANDER [for which see 1144791]. Constructed of wood, she was a sailing vessel.
