The first boat they got out was smashed by the sea, but they finally got away in the longboat and rowed for land. The vessel sank 20 minutes later. They met up with the pilot cutter TURK, who took them on board so that they reached Weymouth at 4pm. The other vessel was the ABRAHAM of Sabioncello, Shields to New York. Her mate testified that a heavy sea carried away her steering gear, causing her to collide and in the circumstances could render no assistance to the sinking vessel.
