Full Description

`The Honfleur fishing smack VICTOIRE DESIREE went through the Portland Race in order to save the three man crew of the DART, which had foundered in squally weather. Pierre Picard received a silver medal from the National Lifeboat Institution. The DART had capsized on a Sunday morning in heavy weather when her ballast shifted. (1)(2) 09-MAR-1857, DART a Dandy of 29 tons and a crew of three and two passengers foundered with the loss of 2 in a NW 8 in Portland Race. (3)
