`...The boat and crew were brought into the port [Weymouth] by the Petrel, the Revenue cruiser. (2)

The building date for this vessel is an estimate based on an average age at wrecking of twenty years. This average is derived from those vessels wrecked on the Dorset coast whose age at wrecking is known.

‘Wexford Independent, Wednesday, 4/11/1840 – “Last Saturday the Delight, Captain Boutcher, of Waterford, from Poole, for Liverpool, laden with pipe clay, sprung a leak, and went down six leagues to the south of Portland Race. The crew were picked up by the Peterel, Revenue Cruiser and landed at Weymouth.’
