Built: Schichau, Danzig Keel laid: 14-Nov-1942 Launched: 06-Jul-1943 Commissioned: 09-Sep-1943 Commander: Ol Peter Grau Crew: 50 Crew lost: 50 (3) Engine HP: 2800 Propulsion: Screw driven x 2, oil engine Armament: 1 x 8.8cm.; 1 x 2 cm.; 5 x TT. Owner: German Navy (1)(2) Date of Loss Qualifier: A German type VIIC patrol submarine. Decca position (SW Chain) Red (F) 18.78; Purple (A) 50.27; Green (B) 35.7. (1)(2) 09-MAY-1944 Left Kiel and arrived in Stavanger. 22-MAY-1944 Left for operations, heading for the North Atlantic. 09-Jun-1944 U1191 was ordered to proceed up the English Channel and on the 18th reported she was west of Achill Point, Ireland. She was later attacked by a Wellington bomber and sunk, there were no survivors.(3) Additional source:
