Full Description
Built in 1942 in the US Navy Yard, Boston, Mass., HMS BLACKWOOD had an HP of 5500 and was propelled by two screw driven steam turbine engines. She was armed with 3 x 3in; 2 x 40mm; 4 x 20mm guns and was owned by the Royal Navy. Her master was Lt Cdr Sly RN. She had a crew of 62, of which 58 were lost.
HMS BLACKWOOD was a Captain Class Frigate on lease-lend from the United States, having been involved in the D-Day landings at Normandy on 06-JUN-1944, was sunk by the German submarine U764 with the loss of 5 officers and 53 ratings; 4 officers including the CO were wounded.
