Full Description

Sunk following battle with HM man o war SOUTHAMPTON, 5th rate, 32 guns. (3) `The COMPTE DE MAUREPAS, a French privateer of 12 guns and 80 men, was sunk off Portland by the SOUTHAMPTON man o war; the crew saved. (2) Source (2) states that the vessel was a privateer, which an account of her capture of a British vessel earlier that summer may bear out (4); sources (1) and (3) state that she was a man of war. This vessel was reported lost on 01-AUG-1780
