1322 wreck of English cargo vessel which was stranded and scuttled after a pirate attack, while bound for Sutton laden with cloth, linen, iron and wax; a wooden sailing vessel. Loss Date: 01/01/1322

`...laden with cloth, linen, iron and wax for conveyance to Sutton, was attacked by Portlanders and people of Waymere, who took away the goods and scuttled the ship. (1-3) `In 1322 a Plymouth ship was attacked for a whole day by crews hailing from Weymouth and Portland who, having at last driven her to Lyme, there boarded, ransacked, and scuttled her. The building date for this vessel is an estimate based on an average age at wrecking of twenty years. This average is derived from those vessels wrecked on the Dorset coast whose age at wrecking is known.
