Full Description

Crew: 3 Date of Loss Qualifier: A The Lyme Regis lifeboat THOMAS MASTERMAN HARDY was launched in a gale when a storm battered ketch was seen drifting across Lyme Bay, from which the Torbay lifeboat had in fact already saved the crew of three. Nothing could be done to save the derelict and she drifted ashore where she went to pieces. (1)(2) The HARDY was launched 12-JAN-1930 to a storm battered ketch seen drifting across Lyme Bay which proved to be the REINE DES CIEUX, of Paimpol from which the Torbay lifeboat had already saved the crew of three. Nothing could be done to save the derelict and she was eventually driven ashore at Eype just off Bridport where she quickly went to pieces.(3)

The building date for this vessel is an estimate based on an average age at wrecking of twenty years. This average is derived from those vessels wrecked on the Dorset coast whose age at wrecking is known.
