Stranded/Total Loss (1)(2)

This appears to be the wreck discussed in the records in 1283, since all pertain to a wreck in Bridport harbour:

'His men of Bridport complain to our lord the king, and that of the great wrong done to our lord the king and to his men of Bridport . . . because if our lord the king does not take care of this within a quarter of a year they will be completely destroyed, that is to say by the abbot of Cerne Abbas and with his force. Whereas the men of Bridport came to the king's harbour where wreck has come there, that is to say three timbers from a ship, which were appraised by the sheriff of Dorset on the king's account at two shillings. Immediately afterwards much of the wreck came to the aforesaid harbour, which wreck the bailiffs of the abbot of Cerne Abbas with their force took away by force from the king and his men of Bridport and this to the amount of two carts, and took it to the abbot's courtyard. After that the abbot of Cerne Abbas impleaded the men of Bridport for the wreck which they had saved on the king's account, and obtained and procured an inquest in his area which passed against the king and his men of Bridport and whereas the wreck was only appraised at two shillings by the sheriff the inquisition said it was to the damage of the abbot of ten pounds of wreck and this the abbot gave to the clerks. So the men of Bridport pray our lord the king that he give them a remedy and advise how they are to have saved the ten pounds and his wreck for his franchise or the abbot will take the wreck and will wholly destroy the men of Bridport.'
