Summary

A World War II observation post or gun emplacement located on the west side of the coastguard station at Peveril Point. Features include the concrete foundations of a possible gun mounting. The structure was constructed in 1940-41 and is built of concrete. A field trip in 1997 found the structure to be in a good condition.

Full Description

Observation Post / Gun Emplacement. S side: Width 24ft, Height 6ft 2ins from concrete seating slabs, over three rows of stone bricks or slabs. Iron ring in centre of wall. W side: Width 11ft 8ins, also with concrete seating. E side: Width 11ft 10ins, also with concrete seating. N side: Open with two central steps up to ground level. Width 21ft 11ins across front. Towards centre steps are the concrete foundations of possible gun mounting, 3ft 10ins x 4ft 4ins, with remains of eight pieces of angle iron on S side. <1-3>
