Summary

A World War II type 25 pillbox located by the slipway road, protecting the anti-tank blocks in Kimmeridge Bay. The pillbox was constructed in 1940-41 and is built of conglomerate concrete using horizontally placed corrugated iron. There are three embrasures, two overlook the road; the third at the rear has been blocked. Situated amongst alum works and other multi-period industrial remains. A field visit in 1997 found the pillbox to be in a good condition.

Full Description

Pillbox type 25, elevated 20 ft up side of bank on the slipway road and protecting the anti-tank blocks. Constructed of conglomerate concrete using horizontally placed corrugated iron. 2 embrasures looking over road; third at rear has been blocked. Inside under the embrasures, and perfectly preserved, are 2 wooden shelves butted together and supported by 3 iron brackets. Dimensions:- entrance 26ins x 37ins with small lip; embrasures 23ins x 13ins inside, narrowing to 13ins x 10ins on outside; inside structure 79ins high, 6ft diameter; shelves 38ins x 8ins, positioned 8.5ins below embrasures; roof perfectly preserved corrugated iron under roof; walls 12ins thick.
