Summary

A World War Two 29 millimetre spigot mortar emplacement located at Nothe Fort, The Nothe, Weymouth. The emplacement was constructed after May 1941 and built of concrete and steel. A field visit in 1998 found the emplacement to be in good condition, surviving features include a spigot mortar pit with a spigot column intact.This structure is visible on aerial photographs of Nothe Fort and was digitally plotted as part of the Nothe Fort complex (MDO6676) during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).

Full Description

29mm Spigot mortar plinth [pedestal].Spigot mortar pit, with spigot column intact. [This has been reconstructed incorrectly by Nothe Fort as a machine gun mount]. <1-3>

This structure is visible on aerial photographs of Nothe Fort <4-5> and was digitally plotted as part of the Nothe Fort complex (MDO6676) during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
