Summary

Second World War coast artillery searchlight located on the Outer Breakwater of Portland Harbour. It was constructed between 1940-41. This structure is visible on aerial photographs, situated towards the northern end of Portland's Outer Breakwater. A field visit in 1983 found the structure to be extant and built of brick, concrete and iron.

Full Description

Coast artillery searchlight. Outer Breakwater, close to Breakwater of 'Chequered' Fort, Portland. <1-3>

This structure is visible on aerial photographs, situated towards the northern end of Portland's Outer Breakwater <4-5>. This feature was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset). It is still visible at this location on the most recent comprehensive aerial images available to the project.
