Summary

A World War Two pillbox located in line with Buller's Way alongside Abbotsbury Beach car park on Chesil Beach. The pillbox was constructed in 1940, was built of concrete, and was situated within the Abbotsbury Defence area, which at this time, was manned by the 6th Battalion Durham Light Infantry. The structure has been demolished. The pillbox can be seen as an extant structure on aerial photographs taken in 1948.

Full Description

A World War II pillbox located in line with Buller's Way alongside Abbotsbury Beach car park on Chesil Beach.
The pillbox was constructed in 1940, was built of concrete, and was situated within the Abbotsbury Defence area,
which at this time, was manned by the 6th Battalion Durham Light Infantry. Pillbox DEMOLISHED. [Shown on OS 1:2500 sheet SY 5684 (1963). Information from Dick Dalley, the Swanherd at Abbotsbury Swannery]. In line with Buller's Way alongside Abbotsbury Beach car park. <1-3>

The pillbox is visible as an extant structure on aerial photographs in 1948 <4> and was digitally plotted during the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project.
