Summary

A World War II type 26 pillbox located on the slopes of Chapel Hill. It is square on plan and constructed of concrete. A field visit in 1995 found the pillbox to be in a good condition. Visible on aerial photographs and digitally plotted for the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project.

Full Description

Typr 26 square pillbox, situated just off the public footpath and 200 yards from Chesil Beach. It consists of a typical hexagonal construction with 5 embrasures and a pistol port by rear entrance. A large amount of soil has been washed inside from the sloping field behind. Each embrasure has a brick-constructed firing step below.

A World War II type 26 pillbox located on the slopes of Chapel Hill. It is square on plan and constructed of concrete. The pillbox was probably constructed in 1940 and was situated within the Abbotsbury Defence area, which at this time, was manned by the 6th Battalion Durham Light Infantry. A field visit in 1995 found the pillbox to be in a good condition. <1-3>
