Summary

A World War II, type 22 pillbox located on a hillside overlooking Chesil Beach at Othona, near Swyre. It is hexagonal in plan with an entrance at the rear, and five embrasures. Construction took place sometime between 1940-41 and is of brick and concrete. A field visit in 1995 found the structure to be extant. Visible on aerial photographs and digitally plotted for the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project.

Full Description

Type 22 pillbox on hillside overlooking Chesil Beach. Hexagonal in shape with entrance at rear, with 5 embrasures. Generally in good condition, but inside the floor surface is filled with a large amount of rubble that reduces the height to only 3ft 6ins approx. Pistol port through wall next to entrance at rear.At Othona, near Swyre. <1-3>
