Full Description

The mill is marked as a disused Cloth and Silk Mill on the First Edition 25-inch Ordnance Survey map. (1)

The existing building is not shown on the 1841 map of Lyme, but there is another building marked on the site adjacent to the river (2).

The mill stands in a steep valley, on the west bank of the stream, and the tailrace discharged just above the weir of Town Mills. It has been converted to a dwelling with grey-washed, rendered walls, coped gables, a slate roof, and replaced segmental-headed windows. The mill was built in the 19th century, it is of 5 bays, and probably of 3 storeys, but further investigation was not possible. (3)
