Full Description

A dewpond lies immediately to the north of the Axminster-Dorchester Roman Road. It appears to be cut into the north-eastern rampart of the univallate Iron Age enclosure descried in MDO1541 and is therefore Roman or later in origin. The site is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs. {1}

'The dew pond mentioned by Jeffrey Radley (5755 9366) is now seen to lie in the terminal of the enclosure ditch, a natural site for such a pond. It may well have been a natural pond before it was artificially lined.'
