An isolated cottage, built in the late eighteenth century, noted for being the birthplace and childhood home of the author Thomas Hardy. The building has walls of brick, partly rendered, and a thatched roof. Now owned by the National Trust.

Full Description

SY 7284 9249. A two-storeyed, brick built cottage with thatched roof at Higher Bockhampton, probably dates from the late 18th century andis noted as the birthplace of Thomas Hardy. <2>

SY 728 925. Hardy's Cottage, Higher Bockhampton is a small thatched house, the birthplace of Thomas Hardy in 1840.<3>
