Summary

A bowl barrow on the top of a knoll in Ramsdown Plantation. One of a dispersed group of barrows on the heathland in this area, the barrow has a mound which is 12 metres in diameter and 0.7 metres high. The quarry ditch from which material was excavated during its construction is no longer visible on the surface but will survive as a buried feature approximately 2 metres wide. Scheduled. The barrow is visible as a low poorly defined mound on 1940s aerial photographs and was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

Full Description

Mound with the appearance of a bowl barrow, on the north side of Ramsdown Plantation on the summit of the main ridge. It is 15 paces diameter. by 1 metre high, with indistinct edges, heather and fern covered and planted with firs. <1>

The barrow is visible on 1940s aerial photographs as a low and poorly defined mound, around 15m in diameter <3>. It is located at that ime within a military base (MDO39677) and it situated between buildings 28m to the east and 16m to the west. IT is under low scrubby vegetation.

The feature is under trees on current Lidar imagery and not visible. It was digiitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
