Group of barrows in Quomp Copse - see plan: SZ 1307596216: No 5. A slightly oval mound 12m across, surrounded by a sloping berm a slight inner bank fillowed by a ditch and outer bank. Damaged by a trackway around the N side. As with No 1 bank and ditch may be modern or part of a "Dorset" type barrow. <1>

A Bronze Age barrow in Quomp Copse, part of a larger barrow cemetery, is visible on a 1954 RAF aerial photograph and on current Lidar imagery <2 and 3>. The barrow is recorded as no. 5 in the NRHE Hob UID 458505 and is designated under SAM List Entry 1015998.

The central barrow mound extends to around 10m in diameter. A section of external ditch is visible on its south and west sides. A semi-circular external bank encompassess almost the entire barow and ditch, being open on its east side. This bank may be a later enclosure associated with tree planting or woodland management (see SAM and NHRE entries). A trackway along its north edge may slightly truncate the monument <2>.

In 1954 the barrow is under very early plantation and the monument is clearly visible <2>. It is under tree cover on current Google Earth imagery <4>.

The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Stour NMP.
