Find Spot record MDO8659 - Iron Age pottery found at Friars Cliff estate, Christchurch

Please read our .

Summary

Early Iron Age pottery has also been reported from the Bure Lane area. All the finds mentioned here were made during the development of the area, and the estate is now entirely built over. A round barrow was also reportedly destroyed during this building work. NB the dating of the pottery noted above is as reported by various Ordnance Survey correspondents during the 1940s and 1950s. [NB It is likely that, in line with subsequent re-dating of later prehistoric pottery, the Late Bronze Age sherds may well belong to the Middle Bronze Age, while the Early Iron Age pottery may be as early as the Late Bronze Age].
