Summary

Some Late Neolithic/ Early Bronze Age finds have been recovered from gravel extraction at Furzy (Latch Farm) and are in the Red House Museum, Christchurch. These include two Beakers, rusticated and grooved ware and quantities of flint artefacts.

Full Description

A large number of finds of prehistoric date have been recovered Furzy (Latch Farm) as a result of gravel extraction, the majority of which are now in the Red House Museum, Christchurch. These finds include some Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age material including two beakers, rusticated and grooved ware, 16 transverse arrowheads, 3 triangular arrowheads, 10 barbed-and-tanged arrowheads and 7 plano-convex knives. The two beakers may be the same two vessels as recorded in MDO8654 and MDO8655. (1)

(Area SZ 153945) Furzy (Latch Farm). The undermentioned finds have been made in the area. Nearly all in the Druitt Collection Christchurch:

60 Palaeoliths; 4 leaf arrowheads; 1 flint celt; 6 flint picks; 3 Microliths; 16 Transverse arrowheads; 10 barbed and tanged arrowheads; 3 Triangular arrowheads; 7 plano-convex-knives; over 600 scrapers 40 cores etc, 2 EBA Beakers (see SZ 19 SE 3 & 4) possibly the same Beakers; Rusticated and grooved ware; LBA urn.

All finds made in gravel working, 3 LBA bucket urns found (b).

This gravel pit is now dis-used and overgrown. (1-3)
