Full Description
'Cheselbourne, Woodsdown. The area, ST(31)/77820020, is under plough, and the Celtic field lynchets are slight. Several sherds were recovered in 1954 (D.C.M. 1955.41); one with protruding flint grits would appear to be in the Iron Age 'A' tradition, another was part of a Romano-British platter, while the remainder were indeterminate but consistent with Romano-British date. A minute scrap of Samian (not kept) was found west of Bramblecombe Lane, at about 779003, near a probable round-barrow (77990035, not recorded by O.S.).
Further north, on the former 'Bramblecombe Common', 78000118, a rim of Samian form Dr. 29 and a Samian base fragment, as well as a shapeless piece of earthenware tile, were picked up in an area of ploughed-out Celtic field scarps (1955.40). Slight surface irregularities point to the possibility of a settlement in the vicinity.' {1}
