Full Description
Hengistbury Class 1 (Bushe-Fox Class B) sherds including one omphalos were found in 1912-13 during the construction of a house called 'The Meadow' (later 'Broadwater and demolished in 1966). (1)
(SZ 15659210) Transitional LBA - EIA pottery found1912-13. In Druitt Collection, Christchurch. (1)
Found when building the house 'The Meadow' (1949 'Broadwater') in 1912-13. Hengistbury Class 'B' sherds found, Sept 1912. Also:
i) IA 'B' omphalos:
ii) LBA/EIA sherds from at least 8 different pots;
iii) LBA/EIA pot base and sides found 30ft NW of fir tree clump at the corner of the garden in 1913.
A BA pot, coarse, badly baked, and broken found in 1923, and bought for the Druitt Colln. (2)
The site of `Broadwater' is now occupied by a block of flats which were built in 1966. There is now no trace of a fir tree
clump within the grounds and no further information could be gained as to the exact find spot of the 1913 or 1923 finds. (3)
