Summary

A small bowl barrow, 16m across, is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken 1947 on the south bank of the river Frome.

Full Description

A large bowl barrow with a ditch. (2)

This barrow has a diameter of 18.0 metres and a height of 1.7 metres. It has a ditch in the southern half, 2.0 metres wide and 0.4 metres deep. There is no trace of a ditch in the East and North-West while, in the North, the ditch is 2.0 metres wide and 0.1 metres deep.

The barrow has been badly mutilated on top by a network of trenches, possibly military. It is covered with gorse and heather. There were no surface finds. A bowl barrow. (3)

SY 81368775. Ditched bowl barrow, 57ft. Diameter and 5ft. High with ditch 10ft wide and 2 ft deep, situated on a small heathland spur above the 100ft contour. The mound is steep-sided and flat-topped, though hollowed in the centre. (5)

SY 814877. Round barrow NW of Hyford Cottage. Scheduled. (6)

A scrub covered bowl barrow at SY 81368774 which generally accords with the description and measurements of Authority (3).

A small bowl barrow, 16m across, is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken 1947 (8) on the south bank of the river Frome. It was digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project. The feature is still visible as earthworks on the most recent Google Earth imagery.
