Summary

A lime kiln recorded as ‘old limekiln’ on the second edition (1900-1902) Ordnance Survey map. The date of this kiln is not known but it is most likely to be late nineteenth century. The site was visited in 1992-93 by Peter Stanier, who could find no trace of the kiln structure. The associated chalk pit is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs.

Full Description

The kiln is marked on the Ist Edition map as lying within an 'Old Chalk Pit', this associated chalk pit is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1946 (1) and is visible as a bare soil mark on more recent DCC vertical photographs (2-3). It was digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
