'During repairs for a water-pipe (SY 811081140) a single burial was located and subsequently excavated by L. J. Keen and R. N. R. Peers. The burial was in a cist grave, aligned approximately north-south, with the skull to the south. Fragments of broken stone suggest that the grave was originally covered. The small skeleton (?young male) was 1.38 m overall and had no grave goods. A large quantity of iron studs around the feet bones suggests that the body had been buried with its boots. A single fragment of New Forest pottery suggests that the burial was 3rd-4th century in date. The find is in the same field as the Roman-British site reported PDNHAS 99 (1977), 125.'
