Summary

A circular mound is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of Bindon Hill. It is of uncertain date and function. It is possible it could be the remains of a late prehistoric round barrow.

Full Description

Mound, possible barrow, 30ft diameter and 3 1/2ft high, about 14 yds south of quarry ditch of Early Iron Age rampart (see SY 88 SW 2). <1>

SY 83488028. A grass covered mound measuring 10.5m. E. to W. and 8.0m. N. to S. where the perimeter has been cut back by a modern track. The mound, 0.5m. High is surrounded by a ditch of irregular width and between 0.3m. And 0.5m. Deep. A possible barrow, but so obvious it is surprising that it was not recognised in the 19th century. Surveyed at 1:2500 on M.S.D. <2>

A circular mound, approximately 7.1m in diameter, is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of Bindon Hill. It is of uncertain date and function. It is possible it could be the remains of a late prehistoric round barrow. This feature was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset). It is visible as a low earthwork on the most recent comprehensive aerial photographs available to the project.
