Full Description

The brick kilns ceased operation before 1902, when the ponds were developed as Duck Ponds; with hides for duck shooting; sunken paths with peat walls along the adjoining banks were created along both sides of the main Duck Pond, with off shoots to hides. (1)

Two late 19th century decoy ponds are visible on aerial photographs of Ford Plantations taken in 1945 (2). These features were digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project. They are still visible on the most recent comprehensive aerial images available to the project.
