Full Description

When the foundations of the Post Office were dug in 1883, the portions of a rough earthen vessel were discovered, believed to be early British. <1>

No further information was obtained during field investigation regarding this vessel, but the site of the P.O. now the telephone exchange, is at SY 92348741. <2>

'I have mentioned British pottery. The earliest date at which I can find any discovered within the walls was in 1883, when the foundation of the present post office was dug. The portions of a rough earthen vessel then discovered are believed to be very early British.'
