Full Description
A S Drew discovered large amounts of Roman pottery in the cemetery extension to the East of St Mary's Church around 1889-90. This included Claudian to Antonine Samian, much coarse ware and coins of Augustus (29-27 BC) and Constantine I (306-37). Large stones have been unearthed which Bennett (1899) suggests are evidence of buildings in the area. The frequency of pottery over the whole area suggests a settlement. <1-3>
