Full Description
In 1979, the River Char flooded and the scour exposed a deposit of preserved wood in clay on the western side of the mouth of the river. Up to 1 m of clay deposits with wood were found as well as a complete wooden bowl. A C-14 date of 1130+-70 AD (HAR-4988) has been determined. It is similar in shape to a 13th-century bowl from Southampton.
