Summary

A Bronze Age bowl barrow is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of 1979. The barrow appeared to be extremely mutilated by military activity.

Full Description

A bowl barrow at SY 8289 9096. Diameter 20 paces, height 3 1/2 ft. <2>

This barrow has a diameter of 15.0 metres and a height of 1.3 metres and has no surrounding ditch. It has been mutilated by tanks which has revealed the mound to be constructed of gravel. A bowl barrow. <3>

SY 8290 9096. Bowl (?) barrow, 48ft diameter and 4 1/2ft high, much damaged. <4>

SY 8290 9096: No change. Resurveyed at 1:2500 on M.S.D. <5>

Bowl Barrow - recorded by the OS Field Reviser during investigation of the area as having been destroyed by tank activity. <6>

Destruction of the barrow confirmed. The site is now in the middle of the junction of trackways on the tank range. Ground photo with archive report. <7>

A Bronze Age bowl barrow is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of 1979 <9>. The barrow appeared to be extremely mutilated by military activity. The barrow is sub-oval in shape and measures 20 m by 14 m . This feature was digitally plotted as part of the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
