Monument record MDO8013 - Iron Age or Roman shale working site, Whitecliff Farm, Swanage

Waste cores from shale armlet production were found at Whitecliff Farm in circa 1882. These are likely to be of late Iron Age or Roman date and indicate industrial activity in the vicinity, although the exact location where the find was made is not known.

A find of shale armlet lathe cores was recorded at Whitecliff Farm in 1882 (Robinson p108), but the exact location is unknown. The reference may be to the farm buildings or surrounding farm land.
