This site is shown as Hitchcocks brick and tile yard on the 1859 map (DCRO photocopy 167). In 1988 the site was visible as a scatter of bricks and a few tiles within scrub and on the beach to the south. Foundations of a brick building had begun to be exposed in the low coastal cliff. This exposure was 1m wide and 1m deep but by 1992 the 6.2m length of the east-west wall had been exposed and the east end had begun to collapse. The remains include evidence of brick lined flues. The site lies on the south coast of Brownsea Island, the steep slope further north contains clay quarries. Visited 25/2/1992 when a measured elevation was drawn at 1:50.
