'EMPOOL PIPELINE, EAST STOKE TO WEST KNIGHTON. An archaeological assessment and watching brief during construction was undertaken by the Trust for Wessex Archaeology for the 14 km of the East-West Dorset Link Main (SY 84389028 to SY 74208783). This work was financed by Wessex Water Engineering Services. … The assessment was undertaken in October 1989 and consisted of augering of boreholes to examine soil depth, collection of artefacts from arable plots and the hand-excavation of test pits in areas of enhanced soil depth. The assessment suggested a low potential for archaeological deposits along the route and this would seem to have been confirmed as a result of the watching brief undertaken in November and December 1989. The following features were observed. … 2 Roman material from Broomhill Bridge possibly associated with a spread of burnt flint and an undated ditch SY 81168821.'
