Monument record MDO7855 - Ditch near Broomhill Bridge, Moreton

A section of ditch recorded during construction of the East-West Dorset Link Main in 1989. No dating evidence was recovered from the ditch, but it may have been associated with adjacent spreads of burnt flint and Roman material.

'EMPOOL PIPELINE, EAST STOKE TO WEST KNIGHTON. An archaeological assessment and watching brief during construction was undertaken by the Trust for Wessex Archaeology for the 14 km of the East-West Dorset Link Main (SY 84389028 to SY 74208783). This work was financed by Wessex Water Engineering Services. … The assessment was undertaken in October 1989 and consisted of augering of boreholes to examine soil depth, collection of artefacts from arable plots and the hand-excavation of test pits in areas of enhanced soil depth. The assessment suggested a low potential for archaeological deposits along the route and this would seem to have been confirmed as a result of the watching brief undertaken in November and December 1989.
