Summary

A hammer stone found in 1951 or 1952 and presented to the Dorset County Museum by the finder. Of flint and around 2½ inches in diameter, with the surface pitted by use.

Full Description

A: SY 94489805. Found, and presented to the Dorset Co.Mus. by Miss V. Chandler. A flint hammer-stone ploughed up in the Cow Leas, east of Dullar Farm buildings, near the south-east corner of the reservoir.... The hammer-stone is a slightly flattened ball, diameter c.2 1/2", and the whole surface except for a small portion of the original flaked surface is pitted by use. Dorset County Museum No. 1952.65. <1>

Miss Chandler confirmed the siting of the hammer-stone mentioned in Auth.1 and pointed out the site of the more recent find on the
map; the area is now under grass. <2>
