Full Description

SZ 00907894. A ploughed windmill mound on the summit of Coombe Hill measuring 68ft diameter and formerly over 3ft high, with slightly-hollowed flat top. The ditch 10ft wide and 1ft deep is broken by a causeway on the south. (See also SZ 08 SW 54). <2-3>

A possible post Medieval windmill mound is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of 1945 on Coombe Hill, Langton Matravers. The mound is sub-circular and measures 19 m in diameter. A sub-oval depression is visible in the surface of the mound <1>. This feature was digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
