Summary

A circular mound is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs and Lidar imagery of Farm Heath, East Stoke. It is considered possible this could be the remains of a Late Neolithic or Bronze Age barrow. It is one of a large group of potential late prehistoric barrows situated at this location (see also MDO7701-05 and MDO30236-41).

'A' - SY 89278774. Small bowl barrow, under plough, 11.25m diameter and 0.5m high.

'B' - SY 89038781. Bowl barrow, 20.5m diameter and 1.9m high with slit trench in top.

'C' - SY 88838788. Bowl barrow, 13.0m diameter and 2.3m high with slight unsurveyable trace of ditch on the south side. A slit trench has mutilated the top.

'D' - SY 89158790. Large natural mound of gravel. (2)

'E' - SY 89028793. Large natural mound of gravel.

Farm Heath Group of five barrows on slope dropping north towards River Piddle.

'A' - (49) SY 89288774. Bowl barrow, 36 ft diameter and 2 1/2ft high. Much disturbed.

'B' - (46) SY 89028783. Bowl barrow 63 ft diameter and 6 ft high. A trench cuts into the centre.

'C' - (45) SY 88848789 Ditched bowl barrow 46 ft diameter and 8 ft high. Much damaged and top excavated.

'D' - (48) SY 89158791. Barrow (?), no dimensions given, Nothing visible on top of knoll.

'E' - (47) SY 89028794. Mound, possible barrow, on top of small knoll. Very disturbed. (3)

'D' and 'E' are large natural mounds of gravel.

A circular mound, approximately 15.2m in diameter, is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs (2-7) and Lidar imagery (8) of Farm Heath, East Stoke. It is considered possible this could be the remains of a Late Neolithic or Bronze Age barrow. This feature was digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project. It is one of a large group of potential late prehistoric barrows situated at this location (see also MDO7701-05 and MDO30236-41).
