Summary

One of a linear barrow cemetery on East Holme Heath. This is the eastern-most of the group and whilst much mutilated is still visible on recent Google Earth imagery.

Full Description

West Holme Heath group of five, possibly six round barrows, lying in an almost straight east to west line in an area devastated by tanks. 'F'-(31)-SY88378459. Bowl barrow, 56ft diameter and 4 1/2ft high. <2>

'F' is 19.0m. by 17.2m. and 1.1m.high. Surveyed at 1:2500 on M.S.D. <4>

A Bronze Age barrow mound, 18m across, is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1946 <7>. It is one of a linear barrow cemetery of originally five or six barrows on East Holme Heath. This is the eastern-most of the group and whilst much mutilated is still visible on more recent verticals <8-9>. The site was digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
