Summary

One of three bowl barrows in a line on a gravel ridge. In 1970 this monument was reported as being a mound around 70 feet in diameter and over two feet high. The barrows are clearly visible as earthworks on recent aerial photographs.

Full Description

Three bramble-covered, round barrows north of Monastery Farm, one of which was opened 1790 and contained a probable primary cremation in a Late Bronze Age bucket-urn placed within a cist covered by a thin stone slab. These three barrows may also have been opened 1825-32 by J F Pennie and published by Warne.

Warne No 51: quarter of a mile from Lulworth: primary (?) cremation is urn with very few ashes, in central cist, covered by small cairn.
Warne No.52: near last: primary (?) urn beneath cairn.
Warne No 53: near last, but small: primary (?) beneath cairn.

One of three bowl barrows in a line on a gravel ridge. The barrows are 14m to 18m across and clearly visible as earthworks on recent aerial photographs <6-7>. They were digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
