Summary

One of two Bronze Age barrows visible as earthworks on aerial photographs lying on Holme Mount. They are enclosed in a later tree ring described separately in MDO30856.

Full Description

About a mile SE of Holme, is a little hill called Holme-mount, on which is an imperfect fortification. <1>

(a) Bowl Barrow. Diam. 15 paces. Height 4ft. (b) Bowl Barrow. Diam. 15 paces. Height 4ft. <3>

Two bowl barrows A & B. A. Diameter 15.0m., height 1.4m., no ditch. B. Diameter 15.0m., height 1.2m., no ditch. An ordinary field bank surrounds the summit of the hill, and may be the 'fortification' referred to by Hutchins (2) though it has no appearance of antiquity. Both barrows are bracken covered. <5>

Two barrows, on Holme Mount, lie inside embanked circle 200 ft. in diam. (tree-clump enclosure?) within 200ft. Ring contour.
(B) Bowl (90698438). Diam. 45 ft., ht. 4 1/2 ft. Bracken-covered. <7>

B. SY 90688438. A gorse and conifer-covered round barrow, as described. The tree ring bank is 1.0m high in places with a slight outer bank. Published 1:2500 survey correct. <9>

The southern of two Bronze Age barrows visible as earthworks on aerial photographs lying on Holme Mount <4>. They are enclosed in a later tree ring described separately in MDO30856. The site was digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck NMP.
