Summary

A ditch recorded during archaeological evaluation by AC archaeology in of a site proposed for an extension of the park and ride facility. The ditch was seen in three of four trenches dug for the evaluation and an identified length of around 25m was recorded. It was interpreted as a possible drainage ditch contemporary and probably associated with the nearby Romano-British settlement. Summary from record MWX2812: Evaluation of the site of a proposed park and ride in 1993, identified a single ditch of Romano-British date.

Full Description

Archaeological evaluation identified a single ditch of at least 25m in length, observed in 3 of the 4 evaluation trenches. Romano-British coarseware was recovered from fills. The excavators interpreted it as field boundary or drainage ditch. They concluded that it almost certainly extended beyond area covered by the evaluation, and was likely to be associated with the known Romano-British settlement at Norden. (Cox and Chandler 1996)
