Summary

Ordnance Survey field investigations in 1986 located a possible bowl barrow within the grounds of Encombe House. It comprised a ditchless mound 13 metres in diameter and 0.8 metres high.

Full Description

SY 94047895. A ditchless mound, most probably a bowl barrow, is situated in a beech wood at the summit of a narrow E-W ridge. The barrow is 13m in diameter and 0.8m high. Two or three mature beech trees grow upon it otherwise the mound appears undisturbed under a covering of grass and wild garlic. Surveyed at 1:1000, reduced to 1:2500 for OS. <1>
