Full Description
Field system. There are lynchets throughout this area. <1>
SY 941778. Remains of `Celtic fields with lynchets up to 3 feet high cover a small area immediately south of Big Wood, but formerly extended in all directions. One lynchet, crossing a settlement to the south (SY 98 SW 14) seems to have accumulated in the later Iron Age and early Romano-British period. <3>
The field system has now been ploughed out. <5>
The site was mapped as part of the the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset). The site is was not completely levelled as low lynchets were visible on lidar taken in 2008-9. <6-7>
