Summary

Full Description

A group of parallel linear banks are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs to the east of Fitzworth Copse (2). They are considered likely to be the remains of a field system of probable medieval date. These features were digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset). They are not visible on the most recent comprehensive imagery available to the project (3).

'FITZWORTH HEATH: Clusters of short parallel strips arranged at various angles to one another. Unclassified earthwork site visible on RAF/VAP//1946// 1821:6392. Medieval sherds found nearby: see 254. Site lies on heathland surrounded by ley pasture.'
