Full Description
A Bronze Age round barrow, approximately 15m in diameter and surrounded by a 1m wide outer ditch, is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of Nine Barrows Down, Corfe Castle (1-2). It is one of a group of seventeen Bronze Age round barrows (MDO7427-7442) and a Neolithic long barrow (MDO7407) located here. This feature was digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck mapping project.

‘Bowl Barrow. Diam.16.8m and Ht. 1.5m Situated on heathland. Grass grows either side of an E-W path which erodes the top of the barrow. The rest of the mound is gorse covered. See RAF/VAP/1821:2403. OS SY98SE5. 1/2/B.’

A bowl barrow, part of a group of seventeen round barrows and a long barrow. The mound is visible as a prominant rise 17.5m dia. and 1.5m high. It lies between 112,153 and 112,155 on the crest of the chalk ridge and has no visible ditch.
Nine barrows are shown on Woodwards map (1775). A cremation was found in one of these barrows (Miles 1826). This land has been downland since at least 1585 (Treswell) and appears never to have been ploughed.
