Summary

A mound is visible at NGR SY 95451 82375 on aerial photographs and is considered likely to be the remains of one of three Sceduled Bronze Age round barrows recorded at this location on West Hill (See also MDO7424 and MDO31450).

Full Description

'B'-(199)-SY95468235. Mound, possible barrow, 63ft diameter and 4ft high situated 49 yards east of 'A'. Possibly ditched but damaged by quarrying. <1>

A mound, approximately 14m in diameter, is visible at NGR SY 95451 82375 on aerial photographs <4> and is considered likely to be the remains of one of three Scheduled Bronze Age round barrows recorded at this location on West Hill (See also MDO7424 and MDO31450). This feature was digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.

‘Probable Bowl Barrow, Diam 19.2m and Ht.1.2m. Situated SW of the junction of 4 fields. The two fields to the NE were on a steep E. facing slope in rough grassland with numerous gorse bushes. Those to the SW were regularly ploughed grassland. A fence crossing the barrow from the NE bends in the middle of the monument and leaves on the W. side SE. of this fence the barrow is unploughed, but damaged by two quarries, one near the mounds centre, the other on its W. side. Blackberry grows on the barrows N. side. See PDNHAS, 74 (1952), 93. OS SY98SE25B and British Gas/ AP/1979/9706-17. 7/7/D.’
